Tyler Brown
Co-Director
Tyler grew up in Oregon and was transplanted to Seattle to study Psychology and Biology at Seattle University. He currently lives in Seattle and works as a researcher with the Center for Aids Research at the University of Washington. Tyler has been an avid runner for about 7 years and started marathon running in 2006.
Tyler's passion to co-found ERACE POVERTY spawned in April of 2007 when he and three other runners raised nearly $5,000 for a group of farmers in rural Guatemala by running their first full marathon. From this he realized that if even a small fraction of his fellow marathoners around the world did the same, they could help put an end to extreme poverty. Tyler sees ERACE POVERTY as a means to channel human energy into positive social change. If you would like to contact Tyler, please email him at

Jeff Bates
Co-Director
Jeff was born and raised in Salem, Oregon before attending college at Azusa Pacific University in Los Angeles. He currently lives in Seattle, Washington and works as a personal fitness trainer and sports performance coach. He has always been a sports fanatic, but never even considered becoming involved in endurance races until he was convinced to run his first marathon in 2007. Following that experience, Jeff was hooked and has since run three more marathons and two triathlons.
Over the years Jeff became increasingly aware of the existence of global poverty, and decided he could no longer ignore it. He felt a sense of duty to do something to help his fellow human beings establish their basic human rights, but was unsure of the most effective way to respond. ERACE POVERTY was his answer.
